Why does the Apocalypse Sound Nice?
If you have ever talked to people who are deep into conspiracy theories, one thing is pretty clear they hate the status quo. Part of their interest in conspiracy theories is they kinda hope for the end of the world. Crazy right? Well, I kinda got it while watching World War Z(2013). It kinda makes some sense. Most people's work, sleep, and commute time vastly outweigh the time spent with friends and family or doing things for themselves. Most people don't understand or don't like how their government is run. The overall world itself is riddled with global problems.
A reset sounds nice. When things get too big, when there are too many strands, it can feel overwhelming or impossible to find a solution. Just burn it down and start over. I suppose that is what happens with revolutions. It can feel too late for peaceful, well-meaning talks, even if the people are truly well-meaning as they perform their drastic, seemingly barbaric zombie attack on their host. Heard it a thousand times by the villain, "Destruction was the only way to save everyone." Then the Kantian hero says, "The means never justify the end." But is that naive? We don't live in a theoretical world; we live in a real, messy world.
A reset sounds nice. You can spend more time with family and friends, and you don't have to feel like a mouse trapped in a wheel surrounded by miles of other mice. Of course, you have to survive the apocalypse first.
